Go back to the place who died your hair and tell them what happened.

I wouldnt mess with it anymore, I would go to the hair salon and they will fix it. They have this stuff that they put that makes ur hair darker so they might do that....but dont mess with it.

ME TOO!! I had to dye it back to my brownish black!! I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but you probably should spend the money to get it done at the salon. The chemicals they use are different, and the technique you can't do yourself. Also, you are going to have to do it in phases, to your desired color. My problem is the same, and I had and orangey cap to my head also. It sucks, but you don't want to ruin your hair or walk around like that!!!

you can get a color stripper and do it at home, if your hair is thick do the top with one kit and then do the rest of your head.
Then go the color that you want.

loreal do a range of hair colors with 'ash' in it. the ash gets rid of any red in your hair therefore it won't go ginger. you can also get 'ash' lighteners to lighten your hair to a light brown.

it'll even out. itll take a couple of days but i doubt its going to be the color u were hoping for. its happend to me. in a couple of days it wont be so orange anymore but wait a couple of days and try again. dont go so extreme tho u need to gradually do it for ur going to do it urself

go to a hair salon or go to cvs or rite ade and get the hair dye remover. it wont take it all out but itll remove some, leaving it less noticable.

You have what they call "hot root". It sounds like at some point you had color on your hair that is still on the longest part of your hair (even if it was a long time ago and looks to be faded out...it is still there). Color can't lighten previously colored hair like it can natural hair. That is why your roots are light and the rest of your hair is darker.
If you absolutely have never colored your hair before, then it was just a reaction to the heat on your scalp that turned your roots a lighter color.
I know people get mad here when someone says to go to a salon, but this is precisely why. When you don't understand how color works, then you get results like this.
You can't just strip the color out now, because your hair has lightened...that won't go away by removing the color.
What you need to do now is color your hair a darker color to match the ends of your hair. Use a semi-perm color that matches the ends of your hair.
If you want to be as light as the root...go to a salon to have it done. It will be a color correction though, which is usually expensive.
