heyy. i have natrually curly (VERY curly) medium colored brown hair. i straighten my hair almost all the time, though. i've dyed my hair before, but only with semi-permenant dye. right now, its black, but its more like a very dark brown now, and i have about one inch roots. i want to remove whats left of the dye first with something called color oops, then lighten it with bleach (unless there are any other options) and then dye it a medium auburn color. however, my mom wont let me bleach my hair(i'm 14). are there any other hair lightening options, or are there any other suggestions for what i should do with my hair?

First off, I have the same hair as you. And I am 14. My hair is a lighter brown, and I dyed it black. Now it is a brown color, and its lightning up on its own. It damaged my hair tremendously. I am affraid it will get so dammaged that I am affraid to dye it again. But, I would ask your buetision what color you should get. If you have a tanner skin tone, like me, I would go with a more carmel color rather then abourn. It tends to turn to an odd purple red color. Blahhk

i dont think there is any other alternative to bleaching hon i have the same prob im 15 and im gettin my hair bleached soon.... lemme just say one thing tho DO NOT and i mean DO NOT try and dye over the black the only thing that will hapen is that ur roots will turn out the hair color u wanted and u will look like woody wood pecker if u want it a light brown or something... u just have to wait i guess or u can try to make ur black hair lighter with lightening gel (just put it in ur hair n sit out in the sun) they sell it at walgreens or u can wash ur hair with chamomile tea... this should make it lighter... good luck!

Honestly, without bleaching your hair it will come out too orange, or even yellowish if you just use the dye. It does fry your hair quite a bit, so you may want to get it professionally done. Straightening your hair damages your hair too, I suggest you give your hair a rest from that too. It will start breaking off if you arent careful.

perhaps if you speak to a hairdresser, get some advice, your mum might see that you're serious and also, your hairdresser will be able to offer some professional advice about what to do with your hair. bleach can be quite damaging to your hair, there are products out there that are prelighteners, that lighten your hair, before you dye it, which can have the same effect.

You don't actually need to use real bleach on your hair. Go to the grocery store, pick a nice auburn color, and look at the back of the box. Find your hair color, and it will show you what effect the dye will have on that color. I have dark brown hair and dyed it bright red, and I didn't use bleach first.
Your mother has reason to be concerned about you dying your own hair, however. A salon will do a better job at getting rid of the color you have and replacing it with a pretty auburn. I would safe up and go to one.

Sun-In is a spray you can buy almost anywhere, and you spray it on and go out in the sun it looks like you have had you hair lightened naturally by the sun.

Wow!! Being that you are still so young, you might want to hold off on the bleaching process. It can damage your roots in a harsh way. What you can do is wait about 6 months between bleaching and coloring. I'm not a professional beautician but i've asked this same question awhile ago so i'm just repeating what the hairstylist said to me. It wouldn't hurt to ask the pros, just give them a ring and see what they say.
And let the Pros do it for you alright?!
But do wait between process tho.

you can get whats called hair color remover. its for colored hair olny. With it being almost balck, it is very hard to get color out. once you have lightened it, I would try and not do anything to it for a week or so, ( If possible ). try a semi color at first to let hair rest abit. make sure you condition hair very well before and after so you dont get breakage. after that you can just use an auburn color, that you want, good luck, And stay away from black unless you want to keep it for along time to come!

My mom is a cosmetologist and I asked her one day after I dyed my hair with a color that came out too dark , if color oops would help me, then re dye it. She said to wait and she would put a lighter color on my hair, that the color oops has chemicals similar to peroxide and bleach and that my hair would become so dry it would break off easily, I took her advice, and my hair looks cool now. Don't use it, try a light blond/combo with the color you like to get it to lighten it, no bleach, you'll ruin your hair! Even though it states it won't damage, my mom has seen it, and it does...

You need to leave your hair alone and go to a salon so they can fix it. When you experiment with hair color on top of hair color, eventually it will become damaged. You should use a good deep penetrating conditioner or oil treatment and find a good colorist. Lots of luck!
