Hair coloring for the last time?

okay.. my problem. had severely damaged hair got it cut. (colored my hair for 5 years) and my roots have grown and my hair is a total I measured 4 inches long. I want my hair to be one color and my natural color. I don't want to cut anymore off because it is short and 4 inches and I am growing it out. I only need to color the top I want to get my hair colored last time without it fading, different then my roots or be a wacky color. and how can I do this. I got my hair professional on Easter it was dark brown now it is blonde and I did nothing to make it blonde.

Most all damaged hair have very open cuticle. Think of it like a sponge. Hair that has been processed a lot of times have open cuticles, like a very old, used sponge that just drips the water out of it rather than retaining it. Healthy hair (or in this case new sponge) hold the water longer is is less porous. This is why your hair has now faded to blonde. I'm guessing that you had blonde in your hair before you went dark brown.

As for coloring your hair now, when you go to a salon, just ask tell them your story, and tell them you want it your natural level and ask them to use a semi-permanent color. Semi-permanent color will last like a permanent, but is not as harsh on your hair. Of course coloring your hair is not healthy for it persay, however lightening with bleach is much, much, much worse that coloring it darker. I would recommend doing that. There is a good chance it will not damage your hair, and will probably add a nice shine.

Investing in a good shampoo/conditioner made specifically for colored hair isn't a bad idea either. Try out the Halo, they have a variety and are designed for color treated hair.

Don't color your hair anymore. Coloring your hair will just damage it more.

It's natural for color to fade. Go to the salon and get a permanent color (box color won't be the same) and ask for tips to reduce fading. They should be able to recommend a shampoo/conditioner that will help protect the color.

Get a color that is a bit darker than your natural color. After it fades a bit, it should blend in. After that, don't color it anymore until you can get the damaged hair trimmed.

Had the same problem with mine, finally back to my natural color. No more hair coloring for me!

Then for goodness sakes leave it alone and just let it grow out. Earlier this year I finally stopped lightening my hair blonde, which it was when I was younger. Now it is entirely its own color, sort of a light salt and pepper and coming in not quite white but really light. Recently my daughter who was always after me to bleach my hair visited, and she didn't even notice the change, because it looks so good. Just invest in a moisturizing shampoo and a good conditioner and you'll be fine.
