Hair Coloring Problem!?

i have pretty dark hair and i've been trying temporary hair dyes to make my hair a light brown. The first few times i tried it it dyed my hair like jet black. Then a few days ago i used a light brown dye, but it only made my hair a tiny bit lighter. what am i doing wrong? i might just try like a blonde color so maybe it will turn brown haha. But idk, does it change the effect of your color depending on how long you leave the dye in? should i try a blonde color? HEEPLPPP

let me just start by saying DO NOT USE DISH WASHING LIQUID, unless you want to strip your hair of all of its natural oils, and also would not be good when you go to a stylist(which i recommend you do) to have professional color put on. Its also not true that you HAVE to bleach out your hair to get a lighter color. What is true is temporary color will not lift over darker color, temporary color is a deposit only, meaning there is little or no lifting agent, peroxide. What i would suggest is to go see a professional, if it is a level or two lighter that you would like, its possible to use a color with a higher volume of peroxide, if it's a lot lighter that your going for i would suggest to gradually highlight it to the stage you would like, do not let someone "bleach" out your hair and then "tone" it with a darker color, all that you'll get is a color that's gonna fade out to an ugly orange brown and damaged hair.

you can try loreal preference les true brunette. it's pretty good. it's for dark hair.

as for the how long... it might work if you know what you are doing. but defintely go see a professional!

stop. go see a professional. tell them what you have put on your hair including colors, and brand names. and they will HAVE to bleach your hair, and used CONTROLLED colors on your hair. if you keep doing what your doing, you're only going to get further and further away from your light brown hair.

I agree with swraberry... Color does not lift color, especially with temporary color.. its like coloring a paper with a green crayon and then coloring over it with a yellow one. Doesn't make much of a difference.

There are 2 things you can do : wait for the color to fade (help it fade faster by shampooing with dish liquid, yes dish liquid) Because temp color fades quick, it doesn't really go inside the hair just sits on top.

Or if you decide to go blonde stop coloring your hair and go to a pro so you don't cause anymore damage. Going from dark to light causes way more damage than going light to dark
