Hair coloring/dying advice please! how fast does it grow out usually?

i have naturally black hair. i'm thinking of dying my hair a dark red/light brown... how fast will i see it growing out? if i go in the sun %26amp; it happens to get lighter.. then i retouch it again, will the salon know what color to use? any advice generally on coloring hair???

if you get it done at home:

- pick a shade or two LIGHTER than what you WANT

- mine grows out 1 inch every 2 or 3 months...

- retouch with the SAME shade

- try to only redye they roots since the dye's harmful to the hair (no matter what they say)

its not that hard; have someone one (you trust) do it for you ^^ or do it yourself!

good luck!

just buy the same colored dye and squeeze it into the roots (where it has grown out). use the same technique as before (i use combs or toothbrushes). after covering the roots, you can do the rest of your hair (evenly). Report It

ok, hmm. the salon will know what to do with your hair? after you dye it it usuallly stays in 4-5 months. So don't worry, If you dye your hair, just dye it dark brown, and get red highlights, or foil your hair and get a combo of both, so it will look nautral.

There are alot of guides on how to colour your hair but rule of thumb dont stray to many shades from your natural hair colour if you are pale skinned you can venture into a lot of colours but beware the shorter your hair the faster you will notice the roots if you have shoulder length hair a little more daring can be but maybe you could try a mahogany the roots will blend with the natural hair

If you go to a salon, your results for a longer-lasting color will be achieved. But you also need to take care of it with the proper haircare if you wish to hold onto that color for a long perid of time. Follow the stylist's suggestion for haircare products. Even if they are pricey, invest in them. You are investing in yourself as it is with a color, why not take the extra few bucks and get yourself something to lock that color in for as long as possible? If you do not, your color will typically fade within a few months. With proper care with the proper haircare, the fading of the color will be minimal. But since your haircolor is also black naturally, a touch up at the roots will most likely have to be done about every month and a half to keep up with the red.

Hope that helps.
