Hair coloring: when can I re-color my roots again?

I've been coloring my hair dark brown for a while now using Garnier brand. Last nite I colored again, but with a different brand (Herbal Essences) and for some reason my roots didn't take so well and are now more red than brown while the rest of my hair is the color I wanted (dark brown). It seems that I should re-color my roots... but when is it safe to do it again? Is it best to wait a week or two?

Thanks for all your answers:)

get a root touch up kit with no ammonia and do it in a few days so your hair can react to the dye chemicals from last night

Usually you should re-dye your roots when they start to show. That usually takes about 2-3 months.

Well, did you wash your hair before you dyed it? Your hair should be dirty when dying your hair so it holds color better. If your roots were showing before you dyed it, then that means it was 2 different colors. Your natural hair color and the dark brown fake color. When you applyed the dye to your natural color [at your roots] it's going to turn a different color hun.

You should wait about 3-4 weeks before doing it again.

Well sometimes its a bit dodgy when you suddenly change the brand of hair colorant, but waiting a good 6 weeks everytime you dye your hair is really good for the condition of your hair. Or if you give up with your hair the hairdressers will put it right for you. byeee!

No!!! If you go a week or two you can damage your hair!!! You should go like every 2-3 months or so. For good coverage though it's probably best to go to a salon and have a professional do it. It comes out as the way you want it more than trying to color it yourself.
