Questions about home hair coloring?

I was thinking about coloring my hair at home. I had hi lights once, and they are fading, so is it safe to color it? Will it turn out two different colors? My hair right now is black with a very light brown/golden, and I wanted to use Clairol's Hydrience Mocha Splash, a medium brown, to color my hair. I've never fully colored my hair, so I don't want to damage it or anything by coloring it. Also, I was reading some articles, about allergic reactions, so I'm having second thoughts. I've had hi lights before and I seemed fine. My whole family dyes their hair a lot and they also seem fine. What do you think I should do? And one last thing, my hair is pretty long, about half way down my back. Should I buy two boxes just in case?

it is fine to dye your hair.. it is the bleach from hlights you should be concerned about... if it survived that then youre fine. THe only think about dying highlights is that they wont come out the same color as all the rest of your hair. I would suggest dying you hair (all of it ) the color you want... the color will probably fade within a few days in the areas you had it hilighted. You can always go back a few weeks later and redye it dark and it should blend in better

I have average thick hair and it does to like my arm pits and i use 2 boxer for mine if i get the regular store hair dye... i usually get my dye at sally beauty supply the quality seems better and color stays better in my personal experience. as for allergic reactions... you can try a test- most have instructions on how to do so.. basically you put a dab of the color on your arma nd see if you have a reaction in a couple days. Most likely it wont be a problem- if you have hilighted before it shouldnt be a problem.

i think you should do it. your hair will be fine but you do have to deep condition your hair after your dye it because it's damaging. yes you should buy two boxes cause your hair is long and one box won't do it.

Buy two boxes, I have hair the same length as yours, and I need two boxes. You should have no problem coloring your hair, even over highlights. It won't turn out two different colors, though you will have a very slight variation in color, but it will make your hair color look less fake and more natural. Also, allergic reactions are very rare, but if you feel a need, there are instructions included about how to test to see if you're allergic.
