I've been using a shampoo for my very mild case of a dandruff problem but want to color my hair with the home kit. Would coloring my hair just dry out my scalp more or should it be fine?

You will be fine. I have the same problem and dye my hair constantly.

just color your hair, deal with the dryed out scap afterwards

you will get colored dandruff for awhile
but if you use a bleaching agent then your dandruff may get worse
