Coloring my hair...?

I got highlights before summer started, but no one really liked them so i'm gonna dye my hair as close to my natural color as possible which is a medium brown. (i don't want to let my highlights just grow out cause i think it'll look tacky) I want to go to a good hairstylist, but it's a little over my budget....so i've kinda sorta decided to color out of a box. Which do you think is the best product to buy?? Plus do you have tips or warnings for coloring your own hair at home?

it would be best to go to a professional, but if you MUST do it yourself try this:

1. don't use the colour brush and bowl included. buy professional ones from a beauty supply (about $3)

2. any brand is fine

3. when picking out a colour, be sure to look on the side or the back of the box where it shows the colour swatches, to see how it will turn out over your highlights. don't ever go off the shade that is on the front of the box.

4. spread conditioner, unscented lotion, or vaseline around the front of your hairline to keep it from getting colour on it.

5. if you get colour on your sink, in your shower, ect. don't freak out. just be sure to clean it off within a few hours.

6. rinse your hair for longer than you think nessecary. however, the water is never going to run clear.

7. be sure you use an old towel once you rinse your hair

8. condition condition condition! it will help keep your colour vibrant for longer.

9. good luck!

im going through the same thing only instead of highlights i got my hair darker so idk im trying loreal FERIA ive heard it works well and gives shine and stuff other than that i dont know someitmes to find the color that you want you have to buy a certain brand coz the product you want might not carry the color you want

Make sure when you use the hairdye, don't set it on an uncovered surface, you think it's not there then half an hour later your hole house is covered.

Don't let too much go on your face, it stains, trust me :P

I would think, that going to a professional is so much better then doing it yourself. If you mess up...well then it will cost even more to fix. And, if you keep dyeing your hair, it will eventually fall out..so i would go to a professional! Definantly..!

any brand will be fine. they all color your hair. if you dont want it to be too dark, don't leave in the coloring for too long.

Coloring your hair isn't that good because it can ruin your hair, your scalp, or it wont look that good. Also you should cherish gods creation!

Heres a warning....

I had a friend whos hair was blonde but she didn't like so she dyed it light red... she didn't like that either so she went to dye her hair back her natural color it turned her hair BLACK!!!!

there's nothing wrong with dying your own hair and using a box from the drugstore, even professional stylists will tell you that it's pretty much the same stuff they use just in a different configuration. If you're nervous about messing up, ask a friend to help you out to make sure that you don't miss any spots. I always do my own hair and I use revlon colorist which works great for me and I've tried a lot of different brands!
