Coloring hair while pregnant...?

My good friend is like 8 months pregnant. She's feeling so down I want to have my mom do her hair (she's a hairdresser)...some people say its ok for you to dye your hair as long as you're in a ventilated area, but is it okay THIS late in the pregnancy? And if not, does anyone have any ideas how I can even out the color without being a threat to the baby?

I recently had a baby, and at the beginning of my pregnancy the doctor gave me a pamphlet on the "do's %26amp; dont's" for pregnancy. It stated that you SHOULD NOT dye your hair during anytime while you are pregnant. The fumes from the hair dye you breath in, and are taken in through your bloodstream to give oxygen to the baby. These fumes can be very toxic to them. It did say however that highlighting your hair is fine.

i've known lots of people who dye there hair throughout there pregnancy and then there are some who say not to do it, but the people i know who have dyed there hair during it haven't had no problems and there babies are perfectly healthy

Its usually the first 3 months of the pregnancy that people say not to die your hair, after that I believe that you are a-ok.

side note- every friend I've had that has gone through a pregnancy I always send for a pedicure around the 8-9 month range... they love the foot massage on those poor swollen and tired feet!!

if she has a healthy pregnancy, its absolutely fine, however, tell the stylist she pregnant *at 8 months, its not really necessary, but they should know* hair color doesn't take so well in pregnant women. Pregnancy releses a lot of strange hormones into the mothers body, and are excreted into the hair. it makes the hair stubborn to color and quicker to fade, but it CAN be done, just extra care to use the right formula and aftercare to ensure it lasts. Happy hair coloring and hope she has a great pregnancy/delivery. I would avoid brazillian hair straightening as it contains formaldehyde, but all other services shouldn't harm a healthy pregnant woman.

I don't think it'd hurt the baby BUT she is hormonal , no offense, nothing is likely to end up looking right. Also when you are pregnant your body reacts differently to most things so they results may not be as expected. I'd stay away from it, get her a wig (www.tashasbeauty.co.nz). BUT Kat seems to have a more educated response!
